Sol Alarm

Terms and Conditions

Effective 7 September 2026

Ars Vitae Pty Ltd, trading as Hex Pro (Australia)

1Who we are

Sol Alarm ("the app") is published by Ars Vitae Pty Ltd, an Australian company trading as Hex Pro ("we", "us", "our"). These terms are an agreement between you and Ars Vitae Pty Ltd about your use of the app.

2Agreeing to these terms

By installing or using the app you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

3Licence to use the app

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the app on Apple devices you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use, as permitted by the App Store terms. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to the copy you download from the App Store.

The app is proprietary software. The app and its content, including the software, design, artwork, and sounds, are owned by us or our licensors. The Hex Pro and Sol Alarm names and logos are trademarks of Ars Vitae Pty Ltd. No rights are granted beyond the licence in this section.

4What Sol Alarm does

Sol Alarm is an alarm clock that asks you to complete wake-up challenges, such as memory games, maths problems, typing exercises, step counting, or squats, before an alarm can be dismissed. Alarms are scheduled through the alarm and notification services built into iOS.

5The free version and the full version

The app is free to use, and an alarm set in the free version rings and behaves like any other. In the free version you can save up to three alarms, each alarm runs one challenge, and alarm sounds come from the library built into the app. Some challenge types are marked in the app as part of the full version and cannot be chosen.

The full version lifts those limits. It adds:

  • more than three saved alarms
  • more than one challenge on a single alarm
  • your own audio and video files as alarm sounds
  • every challenge type, including those marked as part of the full version

The full version is sold in two forms, a monthly subscription and a lifetime purchase. Both give exactly the same thing, and neither gives more than the other. Which one you choose changes only how you pay for it.

6Paying for the full version

Both forms of the full version are sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment, charges your Apple Account, and holds the record of what you bought. We never receive or store your payment details.

The monthly subscription renews automatically at the price shown when you buy it, and keeps renewing until you cancel it. Apple charges your Apple Account at the start of each period. To stop it, cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends, in your Apple Account settings. Cancelling stops the next charge and leaves the full version active until the period you have already paid for runs out. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

Where a free trial is offered, it runs for the period stated at the time you buy and then becomes a paid subscription unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Apple decides whether your account is eligible for a trial. Any unused part of a trial is lost if you buy the lifetime version instead.

The lifetime version is one charge for the same features, with no renewal. It belongs to the Apple Account that bought it and can be restored on your other devices signed in to that account. Buying it does not cancel a subscription you already have, and we cannot cancel one for you. If you hold both and want the subscription to stop, cancel it in your Apple Account settings.

Prices are set for each country and can change. Apple applies any change to a subscription price and, where Apple requires it, asks for your agreement before the new price takes effect.

Refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store terms, not by us. Use Apple's Report a Problem page or contact Apple Support to ask for one. Section 17 sets out rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that nothing in this section limits.

7Alarms keep working if you stop paying

Every alarm you have saved keeps ringing, and keeps being dismissable, whatever the state of your subscription. If the full version is not active, an alarm runs only the first challenge in its list. The rest are kept rather than deleted, and they return if you subscribe again or buy the lifetime version. A custom sound already set on an alarm keeps playing. Alarms beyond the third keep ringing too.

A billing problem, an expired card, a failed renewal, or a refund will never make an alarm silent, and will never leave you unable to turn one off.

8Alarms are not guaranteed

Sol Alarm layers several protections against missed or dodged alarms. Even so, no app can guarantee that an alarm will sound. An alarm can fail or be delayed for reasons outside the app's control, including:

  • a powered-off or fully discharged device
  • revoked alarm, notification, or motion permissions
  • restrictive Focus or notification settings
  • very low media volume
  • operating system limits, bugs, or updates
  • hardware faults

You are responsible for granting the permissions the app asks for and for keeping your device charged and its volume audible. Do not rely on Sol Alarm, or on any single alarm, as your only safeguard for critical events such as flights, exams, medical appointments, or work shifts. For anything important, set a backup alarm on a separate device.

9Physical challenges and your health

Some challenges, for example Steps and Squats, require physical movement immediately after waking. Only choose these challenges if you can perform the movement safely. Make sure your surroundings are clear, hold your device securely, and stop immediately if you feel pain, dizziness, or discomfort.

The app is not a medical device and provides no medical advice. If you have a condition that could make sudden physical activity unsafe, consult a doctor before using movement-based challenges. You use physical challenges at your own risk.

10Imported vocabulary

The Japanese challenge can draw its questions from vocabulary you import into the app. There are two ways to import: a deck file you pick from Files, such as an Anki or a Mochi export, and your own WaniKani account, an optional connection you set up in the app's settings. WaniKani is a kanji-learning service operated by Tofugu LLC, a third party. Your WaniKani account, your use of it, and the data it holds are governed by Tofugu's own terms and privacy policy, not by these terms.

Importing reads. It never writes. When you press Sync, the app copies the kanji and words you have learned into a list held on your device, and the challenge draws its questions from that list. The app does not send your answers back, does not advance or drop any item's stage, and does not change anything in your WaniKani account. How you answer during an alarm has no effect on your progress there. A deck file is read the same way: the app works from a temporary copy, deletes that copy when the import ends, and leaves the file you picked untouched.

Vocabulary you import is stored on your device for your own use. You are responsible for having the right to use anything you import, including a deck somebody else made, shared with you, or published for download, and for keeping to the terms of the service or the author it came from. Many shared decks are somebody's copyrighted work. We do not host what you import, share it, publish it, or inspect what it contains.

We do not operate WaniKani and are not responsible for its availability, its content, or changes to its service or API. We do not operate the apps deck files are exported from either, and a change to an export format can stop a file importing. If WaniKani cannot be reached, a firing alarm is unaffected: the challenge uses the vocabulary you have already imported, or the app's built-in kana. The Privacy Policy describes what each kind of import stores and sends.

11Banners and links

The alarm list may show a banner for another Hex Pro app, and we may change or stop showing it at any time. Banners and links in the app may open the App Store or an external website, which have their own terms and are not governed by these. The Hex Pro mark in Settings opens our website.

12Your data

Your alarms, settings, reliability records, and custom sounds are stored only on your device. We hold no copy and cannot restore them. Whether the full version is active is stored on your device as well, and Apple holds the purchase itself. Vocabulary you import is stored on your device too, and your account and your progress on the service it came from stay with that service, not with us. See the Privacy Policy.

13Acceptable use

The app is for your personal use. You must not:

  • copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the app
  • reverse engineer the app or extract its source code, except as the law permits despite this restriction
  • use the app in a way that breaks the law or infringes anyone's rights
  • interfere with the normal operation of the app

14Termination

You may stop using the app at any time by deleting it. We may terminate the licence in section 3 if you breach these terms. On termination, the rights granted to you under these terms end.

15Availability and changes

We may change, suspend, or discontinue the app or any part of it, and updates may add, change, or remove features. Nothing in this section limits your rights under section 17.

16No warranty and liability

To the extent the law allows, the app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that every alarm will sound.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss, or for lost income, opportunity, or data, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app. This includes loss caused by a missed, delayed, or silenced alarm and any injury sustained while completing a physical challenge. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

17Australian Consumer Law

If you are in Australia, our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms limits those rights.

18Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. You and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that state, without affecting any right you have to bring proceedings where you live.

19Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the effective date above changes and the updated terms ship in the same app update. Continued use of the app after an update is acceptance of the updated terms.
